The “Global Top 100” list of Candy Industry, the international publication of the chocolate and confectionery industry, has been published and the top 10 companies in the industry in 2019, respectively; Mars Inc., Ferrero, Mondelez International, MeijiCo. Ltd., Nestle SA, HersheyCo., Nestle SA, ChocoladefabrikenLindt&Sprungli AG, EzakiGlicoCo. Haribo Gmbh&Co.KG and Perfetti Van MelleSpa. (CandyIndustry, 2019). There are four big Turkish companies among the first 100 companies in the related list.

A large part of the world’s production and trade of the sector is carried out by developed countries. The majority of world trade in the chocolate and confectionery sector is carried out among developed countries.

Continuous increases are observed in world consumption and these increases are expected to continue in the coming years.

According to Table 1, the total world exports of confectionery products in 2015 increased by approximately 6 billion dollars and reached 56 billion dollars in 2019, and the sector grew by 13.1%. our country’s total exports of related sectors took 11th place in 2019 with 1,726,557,000 dollars.

The export values of World Confectionery and Chocolate Products are examined respectively and the world ranking of our country in the relevant sectors is examined in Tables 2 and 3 below.

As can be seen in Table 2, World Sugar Products Exports showed a gradual increase within five years, and an increase of 12.3% was observed in 2019. Our country’s exports in the related sector also increased and Turkey took 8th place.

According to Table 3, the total world export of chocolate products in 2015 increased by approximately 4 billion dollars and reached 29 billion dollars in 2019, and the sector grew by 13.9%. According to Table 3 above, Turkey took 13th place in the world in the export of chocolate products sector in 2019.


Our Country’s Confectionery and Chocolate Products Export

The beginning of the confectionery and chocolate products sector in Turkey has turned into an important sector that includes traditional Turkish confectionery such as Turkish delight and halva, produced in small workshops with the raw materials supplied from the region, where modern production technology is used together with traditional production methods, and even develops its sub-industry with excipients and packaging materials.

In recent years, we have witnessed that our country has carried the Turkish brand to the top by producing high value-added products, especially with the big breakthroughs of our exporters in the sector. 10 countries in Turkey’s most exported products in the Candy and Chocolate products sector are Iraq, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Yemen, the United Kingdom, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Germany and Syria, respectively. Every year, the increase in the potential of the related sector is followed by İHBİR and in this context, it is aimed to increase the exports of the related sector by directing our exporters to target geographies.
